The Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Mr. Samuel Abejide has asserted that the quality of governance at the grassroots is directly tied to the competence and professionalism of the local government workforce.
He made position known during the opening of a two-day workshop themed “New Trends in Legislative Practices,”held in Ado – Ekiti.
Represented by the commissioner for the training and manpower development department, Mr Wole Olujobi emphasized that in today’s governance landscape, legislative officers must move beyond routine practices to adopt innovative, knowledge-driven approaches.
“This workshop attaches great importance to capacity-building. The quality of governance at the local level is likely determined by the competence and professionalism of its workforce,” Mr. Abejide said.
He described the training as both timely and strategic, especially in light of the evolving demands in legislative procedure, digital record-keeping, and citizen engagement.
Abejide encouraged the participants to go beyond tradition and embrace the dynamics shaping 21st-century governance.
He called for a renewed commitment to excellence, describing the workshop as a strategic necessity rather than a routine event.
The chairman used the opportunity to congratulate the Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji on his emergence as the APC consensus candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
In his welcome address, Head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Appointments, and Postings, Mr Familoye who also oversees Training and Manpower Development, appreciated participants’ attention and dedication to the workshop.
He reiterated that the seminar was designed to improve institutional capacity for effective service delivery, urging participants to take advantage of the sessions.
“We are excited about the insights this program will produce,” he added.
A moment of silence was observed in honor of the late Barr. Emmanuel Agbola, a dedicated HLA training and manpower development department of the Commission whose recent passing cast a shadow over the event.
He was remembered as a pillar in training within the LGSC.
The workshop is expected to cover emerging legislative protocols, ethical governance, and leadership in local administration—geared toward equipping officers with tools to meet evolving governance challenges.
