The Chairman, Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Samuel Abejide has described the award conferred on him and the permanent secretary Mrs Titilayo Toba-Ojo by the Department of Local Government and Development Studies at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, as a direct recognition of the visionary leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Speaking after receiving the Award, on behalf of the chairman, the commissioner in charge of establishment and management services, Comrade Segun Onaade stated that the honour was not only for the chairman but a testament to the Governor’s investment in grassroots development and human capital in the local government system.

“This award is a recognition of the Governor’s unwavering support for capacity building. Over 150 staff members were approved by the Governor for in-service training in this university, which is a bold confirmation of his commitment to the development of career officers in the local government,” Abejide said.

He added that the recognition affirms the positive transformation taking place in the state’s local government service under Governor Oyebanji’s administration.

The Chairman however dedicated the award to the Governor, who has made the progress possible, adding that Without the Governor’s commitment, there would be nothing for anyone to acknowledge.

“I also wish to confirm that this in-service training initiative is not a one-time effort. His Excellency has approved that it will be continuous. As this current batch completes their training, another will be nominated to take their place. Our collaboration with this prestigious university will remain active and productive” he said.

In her reaction, Mrs. Titilayo Toba-Ojo described the training initiative as a life-changing opportunity for grassroots officers.

She disclosed that nearly 100 staff members of the local government service are currently undergoing training in various academic programmes, including diploma, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

“Today alone, we came with 30 diploma students and about 50 others in different categories. This shows the level of the Governor’s investment in human capital development,” she said.

She confirmed that the training programme will be a continuous one. ” The Governor has given approval, and by next year, we plan to sponsor even more staff members for further studies, beyond the number we have here today.”

This award, though presented to the Chairman and I truly belongs to our Governor, whose vision and support for capacity building at the grassroots have made all of this possible. We dedicate it to him, with gratitude. She added

The event was well attended by a team of Commissioners from the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, including Hon. Febisola Adewale, Hon. Cecilia Dada, Prince Suyi Aladesanmi, Mr. Wole Olujobi, and Hon. Olawole Adedipe.

Also present were the Permanent Secretary of the Loans Board, Mr. Rotimi Akomolede, the six Executive Secretaries, the NULGE President, as well as several Heads of Local Administration (HLAs) and Directors from the commission.
