The Chairman of the Ekiti Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Samuel Abejide, has reaffirmed the importance of unity, collaboration, and grassroots engagement as essential drivers of effective governance and sustainable development.
He stated this during a strategic meeting with the president and other leaders of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) drawn from all local government areas across the state held in Ado Ekiti.
Abejide emphasized the critical role of institutions and leadership in strengthening governance and improving service delivery.
He noted that continuous engagement with stakeholders since the inception of the administration has contributed significantly to the progress recorded within the Commission.
Stressing the importance of constructive dialogue in achieving lasting solutions, the Chairman reiterated that the Local Government Service remains a top priority, adding that the Commission has evolved its approach to foster stronger collaboration and ensure effective execution of its responsibilities.
“I have listened carefully to the various contributions and observations made. While I may not justify everything said, I acknowledge the sincerity behind the concerns raised,” he stated.
He urged all stakeholders to maintain transparency, mutual respect, and open communication to enhance productivity and trust.
“Let me tell you, local government can be best described as the direct link between the government and the people, so I want you to take responsibility within your domains and ensure proper dissemination of information without distortion”.
“Politics is a continuous process of engagement and consultation. We must see ourselves as partners in governance, working together to build confidence, unity, and development,” he added.
He further stressed the need for discipline, adherence to due process, and respect for established political and administrative structures, noting that democracy thrives on order, responsibility, and compliance with laid-down rules.
On mobilization, Abejide urged stakeholders to intensify engagement at the community level, ensuring that government policies and initiatives are effectively communicated and implemented.
In his remark, a Commissioner in the commission, Comrade Segun Onaade, commended the commitment of the union leaders and emphasized the importance of boldness and proactive participation in governance.
“What we are learning here is that boldness is very important. Government recognizes commitment and dedication in service delivery, and we must not be defensive but proactive in our responsibilities,” he said.
He praised members who have excelled in media and mobilization efforts and encouraged others to strengthen their structures, remain strategic, and work in alignment with collective goals.
He revealed that over 5,000 mobilization targets have been set for the year and called for unity and coordination among all agencies to achieve them.
The Permanent Secretary, in the commission, Mr. Rotimi Akomolede, described the Chairman as a respected and visionary leader whose legacy will continue to inspire confidence within the Local Government Service.
“The respect accorded to true and purposeful leadership is evident in what we see today. Baba has built a legacy of service, wisdom, and dedication that speaks for itself,” he said, urging participants to listen, learn, and be guided.
In his response, the State President of NULGE, Comrade O. B. Olatunde, expressed appreciation to the Chairman and acknowledged the presence of his team as Artillery Brigade Command, describing them as key partners in progress whose contributions continue to support the system.
He assured the Commission of the union’s commitment to delivering the assigned responsibilities, noting that the confidence reposed in them serves as motivation to do more.
“Whatever assignment given to us is not too big; it is a privilege, and we are ready to do even more in appreciation of the trust placed in us,” he said.
Providing further insight into mobilization efforts, the NULGE President disclosed that a significant number of people have registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing a strong base of eligible voters.
“At present, based on our projections and calculations, we are confident of delivering about 90,000 votes,” he stated.
“The mathematics is simple—when there is coordination, cooperation, and shared purpose, success becomes achievable. If we maintain this unity and structure, our objectives will be fully realized,” he added.
He further stressed that governance requires continuous engagement and collaboration, noting that even with limited resources, effective planning and accountability can drive meaningful development.
