Alumni demand compensation following Ifaki Grammar School relocation

The takeover of Ifaki Grammar School, Ifaki-Ekiti, by the Ekiti State Government without due compensation has been condemned by the Omiabidun of Ilupeju-Ekiti, Chief Esan Ogunleye.

Chief Ogunleye, an alumnus of the school, at his resident in Ilupeju-Ekiti, decried the poor relocation of the institution to an undeveloped site following government’s university project which ceded the school to the then University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University.

The elder statesman expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the school’s takeover and called for a focused development drive to restore its legacy.

Chief Ogunleye, who promised his support for the rebuilding the displaced institution, called on other well-meaning alumni to join hands with the present executive members to reposition the school to its former glory.

Earlier, the National President of Ifaki Grammar School Old Students Association, IGSOSA, Mr Kunle Olofintuyi, advocated a renewed push for the revival of the school and unveiled a development agenda ahead of its 70th anniversary.

The IGSOSA President highlighted the needs of the school to include an access road, an ICT centre, a library and additional classrooms.

He also honoured the elder statesman with a symbolic decoration using the association’s muffler.

Among the dignitaries at the occasion were Eyetu Folake Ogunleye and Prince Amusa Rasaq, who commended the visit and donated educational books to boost the school’s library.

Members of the entourage of the IGSOSA President included the Secretary, Mr Oluremi Omodara; the Treasurer, Mr Sunday Ojaomo; the Public Relations Officer, Mr Kelechi David; the Auditor, Pastor Taiwo Adeola; and an alumnus, Prince Emmanuel Aribatise.
