The Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the bill banning the use of Mobile phones and conveyance of two passengers by the motorcycle operators in the state.
The order was part of the State motorcycle operators Regulatory bill 2025 considered by the Committee of the whole house and passed into law during plenary at the Assembly complex in Ado.
The legislative arm pointed out that the age limit for commercial operators must not be less than eighteen years while usage of helmet , reflective jackets must be part of their dresses.
The law also stipulates that motorcycle used for crime shall be impounded while the owner will be prosecuted.
The Assembly urged motorcyclists not to convey passengers and loads on petrol tanks.
Also , the lawmakers have called on the State Waste Management Agency to appropriately place it Dino bins on the highway to avert unnecessary accident.
They urged them to place reflective road signs few metres to the bins to serve as precautions to unsuspecting road users
The member representing Ise / Orun constituency , Mr Babatunde Omotayo has defected from SDP to APC at the plenary while the Speaker congratulated him for taking a bold step to join the ruling party.
