The Ekiti State government has called on leaders of Drivers and Okada riders unions in the state to warn their members against unnecessary movement during the hour of sanitation exercise.
The State Commissioner for Environment Chief Tosin Aluko Ajisafe made the call on the heels of the transporters activities posing a threat to the smooth operation of Environmental task force team during the exercise.
A suspected driver had let hell loose around Okesha area of the state capital when he attempted and eventually freed his suspected girlfriend who had been arrested by the Environmental task force team for wandering during the sanitation exercise.
The Commissioner who led the task force team to Fajuyi motor park where the suspected driver was hibernating cautioned as well as appealed to the drivers to support the clean environment exercise of governor Biodun Oyebanji led government.
Chief Aluko Ajisafe said the governor had invested so much in making Ekiti a clean and healthy environment, hence the need for people to support him with their participation.
The Permanent Secretary, in the ministry, Mr Tunde Balogun emphasized the need for collective responsibility in achieving a healthy environment and noted that the ministry will continue to engage the transporters.
The Drector of Environmental service, Mr Aluko Ayodele said about one hundred and twenty violators were arrested during the exercise and will be charged to court for prosecution .
