.. .says performance measured by results.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Samuel Abejide, says the performance of local government officers will be judged by results, and not effort.

Abejide who gave the indication when he declared open a 2-day workshop on service delivery charged the officers to redouble their efforts and deliver more on task before them.

The commissioner in charge of the training and manpower development department Mr. Wole Olujobi who spoke on behalf of the chairman told the middle-level officers that they serve as the bridge between policy formulation at the top and implementation at the grassroots.

He added that the success or failure of service delivery largely depends on their commitment, competence, and leadership.”

Commenting on the theme of the workshop, _“Enhancing Performance in the Local Government for Effective Service Delivery”_, the chairman said the training was coming at a time citizens demand better services, greater transparency, and more accountability from the tier of government closest to them.

“Local Governments must rise to meet these expectations and you are central to making that happen,” the Chairman said.

Abejide charged the participants to focus on six priorities: *professionalism and accountability, effective supervision and teamwork, continuous learning and capacity development, efficient use of resources, embracing innovation and technology, and responsiveness to community needs.*

The chairman opined that the initiative aligns with Governor Oyebanji’s human capital development agenda for efficient service delivery at the grassroots.

“The real transformation must begin with you through your dedication, discipline, and willingness to embrace change,” he added.

Earlier in his opening address, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Rotimi Akomolede, stressed the role of experience over academic qualifications.

“Experience is the best teacher. Regardless of what you must have learned or read in the university, whether a Master’s or PhD, you will get to a level where you have to come and prove yourself. It is the experience that you gather that will help you,” Akomolede said.

He described the training as avital exercise with significant government funds committed to it.

“The government is spending a lot. This is not a tea party at all. I want us to set our minds to it. Whatever you are taught here, please pay attention and not loiter around. It is not a time for you to go out and receive calls. You will benefit more by listening,” he charged,

In a lecture, the Executive Secretary, Comrade Ayo Aluko, emphasised that public servant must embrace attitudinal change for a better service delivery.

He commended the present leadership of the Local Government Service Commission for resuscitating the induction training programme which, he noted, had been jettisoned for years.

Aluko then urged the participants to take full advantage of the “golden opportunity” which will make them grounded for future challenges.
