Ekiti Screens Aspirants for Head of Local Government Administration

The Ekiti State Government has concluded the selection process for Heads of Local Government Administration, HLAs, across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.

The exercise marked the end of a three-stage selection process, which began with a written examination, followed by a Commission interview, and culminated in a high-level screening.

Speaking at the exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Rotimi Akomolede, welcomed the candidates but reminded them that the stakes were high.

“This is not a tea party. It is a serious business. The position you are aspiring to is a very exalted one in the local government system,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary urged the candidates to maintain corporate appearance and comportment, noting that the HLA role demands the highest level of responsibility, integrity, and non-partisanship.

He added that the Director cadre, which many of them currently occupy, was once considered the peak of the civil service.

“In those days, Levels 14/15 looked like the peak. But today, you are being considered for a position that oversees the entire administration of the local government,” he stated.

Mr. Akomolede further charged the aspirants to trust in God and in the process, stressing that the Commission was committed to transparency and merit.

He said the screening was aimed at appointing competent, apolitical career officers who can drive government programmes at the grassroots and ensure due process in local government administration.

He added that results from the three stages would be collated and recommendations forwarded to the appropriate authorities for final approval.

Observers described the process as competitive and transparent, expressing optimism that the outcome will strengthen governance at the third tier of government.
