The Chairman Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Samuel Abejide, says effective procurement and efficient inventory management are vital to the success and sustainability in the running of local government system.
Mr. Abejide, who was represented by a commissioner in the commission, Mr Wole Olujobi, made the remark when he declared open a two-day workshop on “Advanced Procurement and Inventory Management”, in Ado-Ekiti.
He explained that the workshop is aimed at equipping participants with advanced skills and knowledge to streamline procurement processes, minimize wastage, and optimize inventory levels.
The chairman emphasized that adopting advanced strategies and technologies is essential in today’s dynamic environment, hence the need for the workshop.
He encouraged the participants to actively engage with the contents of the workshop, which include record management, effective stock-taking and control, due process guides for procurement in the public service, as well as store/procurement planning and design.
Mr. Abejide expressed gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his dedication and visionary leadership, which have fostered development and growth within the state.
The workshop brought together procurement and inventory professionals to share knowledge, exchange innovative ideas and build capacity with the goal of enhancing the operations of the local government service and promoting efficient service delivery and sustainable development.
In his welcome address, the Head of Local Government Administration on Training and Manpower Development Department, Barrister Agbola Emmanuel advised participants to be attentive during the seminar, ask questions and take back home what they have learnt to improve themselves and others in their various offices.
One of the resources persons, Engineer Samuel Ogundare, while delivering a lecture on advancing procurement practices in Ekiti State, emphasized that strict adherence to due process is crucial for fostering public trust, efficient resource utilization and compliance with the law.
He told participants to familiarise themselves with the Ekiti State Public Procurement Law, commit to transparency and accountability as well leverage technology for efficiency and reduced corruption.
By implementing these strategies, Ogundare concluded, procurement can drive sustainable development and good governance, ultimately enhancing public service delivery in Ekiti State and Nigeria.
