The Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Samuel Abejide, has called on confidential secretaries and secretarial assistants across the state to strengthen their productivity through continuous learning, digital competence, and ethical professionalism.
He made this call during the opening ceremony of a two-day Productivity Enhancement Seminar for Confidential Secretaries and Secretarial Assistants, held in Ado-Ekiti.
Representing the Chairman , the commissioner in charge of the training and manpower development department Mr. Wole Olujobi described the workshop as timely and strategic, given the critical administrative roles played by the confidential secretaries in the effective functioning of the Local Government system.
According to him, secretaries serve as the engine room of administrative coordination, as they manage schedules, handle sensitive documents, facilitate communication, and ensure smooth office operations.
He emphasized that their performance directly influences the productivity of their superiors and the overall image of the Local Government Service.
Mr. Abejide noted that in today’s technology-driven environment, productivity is no longer measured by mere attendance at work but by efficiency, accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He stressed that improving performance requires continuous learning and the acquisition of digital skills, effective communication abilities, ethical conduct, sound time management, and workplace discipline.
The Chairman explained that the workshop was designed to strengthen participants’ administrative and organizational skills, improve their proficiency in modern office technology and digital tools, enhance record management and documentation standards, promote effective communication and interpersonal relationships, reinforce confidentiality and professional ethics, and build capacity for stress management and workplace efficiency.
He further stated that the Commission recognizes training and manpower development as a viable investment in institutional excellence. A well-trained secretary, he said, is not merely a support staff member but a strategic partner in governance and service delivery.
Encouraging active participation, Mr. Abejide urged attendees to ask questions, share experiences, and maximize the opportunity provided by the seminar. He advised them not to regard the training as a routine exercise but as a turning point toward improved performance and renewed dedication to duty.
“As you return to your respective offices,” he said, “I expect measurable improvements in your work output, better time management, improved documentation practices, enhanced teamwork, and a higher standard of professionalism.”
The Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to continuous professional development across all cadres of the Local Government Service. He called for collective effort in building a more efficient, responsive, and productive system.
He also expressed appreciation to the governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his unwavering commitment to strengthening training and manpower development in the state and for his consistent support for capacity-building initiatives.

In his address, the HLA, Mr. Famisa Adedayo, emphasized the vital role of confidential secretaries in local government.
He stated that they are essential to the smooth flow of information and the overall success of the administration—an office he deeply respects.
Mr Adedayo noted that when an organization operates efficiently and without acrimony, it is often because confidential secretaries are performing their duties effectively.
He explained that this program has been organized by the Commission to bring confidential secretaries together, provide a platform for sharing ideas, discuss challenges, and explore solutions.
The goal is to equip participants to enhance service delivery in their respective offices.
Mr. Adedayo further affirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that participants remain aware of their responsibilities and fully understand the significance of their role.
He expressed gratitude to the Commission for organizing the training and to the Governor for providing an enabling environment.
He urged all participants to cooperate with the lecturers, pay careful attention during the workshop, and apply the knowledge gained in their offices.
He reminded them that there should be no reports of indiscipline, and that active engagement will lead to a more impactful contribution to their respective offices.
