Traders in Ekiti State have called on governments at all levels to address the high cost of goods in the state.
Our reporter, Felix Adesope, who was at the Bisi Market in Ado-Ekiti to sample traders’ opinions on the cost of goods, reports that some of the marketers appealed for more support and government intervention to improve business activities and the welfare of citizens.
The traders acknowledged the efforts of the Ekiti State Government in promoting local businesses, while noting that more assistance in areas affecting traders and families would help improve their standard of living.
The marketers also expressed concern over the steady increase in the prices of goods and commodities, which they attributed to high transportation costs and the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the economy.
According to them, some goods that were previously affordable have become more expensive, thereby affecting both traders and consumers.
They added that the situation has also influenced the buying patterns of customers, as many now prefer purchasing goods closer to their homes to reduce transportation expenses.
The traders further noted that market patronage was not as active as it used to be, and that sales had dropped compared to previous years.
They called on the government, relevant agencies, and stakeholders to introduce palliatives, soft loans, and transport subsidies for traders to cushion economic hardship and revive commercial activities in the market.
