The Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Chief Samuel Abejide, has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the capacity of the local government workforce in the State.

Abejide stated this during the opening of a two-day induction training for newly converted internal auditors.

Represented by the Commissioner in charge of Information and Civic Orientation, Training, and Manpower Department, Mr Wole Olujobi, the Chairman attributed the commission’s efforts to the benevolence of the State Governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, who has created a level playing field for training and retraining of officers for maximum productivity.

Abejide charged the newly converted internal auditors to familiarize themselves with the ethics, norms, and principles of auditing in the local government system, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and compliance with regulations.

He also urged them to maintain the highest standards of integrity, objectivity, and professionalism.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Audit Service Commission, Mr Ade-Ojo Adebayo delivered a lecture on “Internal Audit as a Sentinel of Accountability and Transparency”.

He emphasized the importance of internal auditors being bold, firm, and independent in their work.

The Executive Secretary of the Central Internal Audit of LGSC, Mr. Femi Olowolade, explained that the ethics of the job are packaged into the induction training to help the participants learn and equip themselves with the necessary skills.

He highlighted the five pillars of the central internal audit as capability building, results-based performance management system, innovation and adaptability, digitalization of service content, and succession institutionalization of internal control.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Elder J.A. Falaju appreciated the commission and the Governor for providing the opportunity and promised that the participants would be dutiful, consistent, and diligent in the course of their job.

The workshop brought together participants in the audit department of the 16 local government areas and 19 Local Council Development Areas across the state.
