Authorities at the local government level of Ekiti State have been charged to adopt more inclusive, transparent, and data-driven approach to budgeting, as part of efforts to ensure efficient resource allocation and effective governance at the grassroots level.

The chairman of the state Local Government Service Commission Mr. Samuel Abejide gave the charge during a capacity-building session for Budget, Planning, Research, and Statistics Officers themed “effective budget and efficient budget preparation in Ekiti State local government”.

Represented by the commissioner for the training and manpower development department, Mr. Wole Olujobi reminded participants of their critical roles in shaping the future of local governance across the state.

Mr Olujobi a commissioner in commission stressed the need for a holistic and inclusive approach to budgeting in Ekiti State.

According to him, It should not be a top-down exercise, but one that involves all key stakeholders, and that Community engagement is vital because local governments are accountable to the people they serve.

He emphasized that budgeting must be tailored to address the most pressing needs of communities — including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare — and must be driven by accurate data.

The chairman then stressed the governor’s commitment to the growth and efficiency of grassroots governance has made Ekiti a reference point nationally.

He added that the Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has consistently played a fatherly role in the reorganization, repositioning, and improvement of the Local Government Service in Ekiti State.

“He has not only approved adequate funding for staff training but has also shown deep interest in the quality and relevance of materials used to strengthen service delivery.” he remarked

The Head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Training and Manpower Development Department, Mr. S. A. Familoye, in his welcome address emphasized the importance of commitment and discipline.

Also Standing in for the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Familoye reiterated that the training was a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing staff capacity for improved service delivery across 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

“This is not one of those routine workshops, “It is a deliberate step toward aligning our workforce with the demands of 21st-century public service. The knowledge shared here must reflect in your daily responsibilities.”

“Government is investing heavily in this capacity-building effort. It is only right that we justify that investment with full commitment,” he concluded.
