Joy, laughter, heartfelt tributes, and thanksgiving rented the air as staff of the Ekiti Local Government Service Commission gathered to honour and celebrate their Chairman on his 80th birthday.
The Permanent Secretary in the commission, Mr Rotimi Akomolede led other members of staff in a tribute describing the Chairman as a respected statesman, an institution, and a reference point for excellence in Ekiti State.
He attributed the Commission’s transformation to the Chairman’s visionary leadership, noting that many officers had risen to Deputy Director and Director ranks because of the reforms he championed.
“Today, by the grace of God and through Baba’s tireless efforts, we now have Directors of Administration on Grade Level 10, something that was unimaginable over the past twenty years.”“His sacrifices, dedication, and legacy cannot be fully repaid,” he remarked.
Calling him a super consultant and an oracle, the Permanent Secretary said the Chairman’s compassion and concern for staff welfare were unmatched, urging staff to emulate his example of selfless service.
He prayed to God to continue to strengthen the life of the Chairman.
“May you celebrate 90 years, 100 years, and even beyond in sound health and joy. Happy 80th Birthday, Baba.”he noted
In his remarks, the Chairman Mr Samuel Abejide said he was deeply emotional and admitted that until his 80th birthday, he had wondered why people became overwhelmed when celebrated.
“During my 80th birthday celebration, I experienced that feeling firsthand. I was genuinely overwhelmed by the love, honour, and appreciation shown to me by the entire staff of the Local Government Service Commission,” he said.
The Chairman noted that while the Commission’s work over the years was simply “in line with our responsibilities and duties,” the applause and affection from staff “touched my heart in a way I cannot fully explain.”
Describing the event as more than just a birthday, the Chairman called it a celebration filled with mystery, courage, dedication, loyalty, and God’s faithfulness throughout his life’s journey.”
He prayed for every staff member to triumph over obstacles, succeed in their endeavours, and live to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Abejide also gave special commendation to staff for their discipline and commitment during the last election period.
“Everywhere I went, I heard commendations about the commitment, discipline, and dedication displayed by our staff. You made the Commission proud,” he said.
Speaking on government relations, the Chairman praised the Governor’s integrity and support for the service.
“When he says that the Local Government Service is his first choice, he says it sincerely, his commitment to the service is evident in both his words and his actions.” he added
He urged the staff to be more dedicated, adding that Failure was never the final option, and charged them to explore every opportunity, overcome every obstacle, and get the job done.”
