The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) in Ekiti State, Mr. Abejide, has emphasized the critical role of middle-level officers in driving effective governance and service delivery at the grassroots.

He made the remarks while declaring open a workshop themed “Intensive Training Programme on Preparation of Accounts for Middle-Level Officers in Local Government Administration in Ekiti State.”

    Wole Olujobi

The Chairman, represented by the commissioner in charge of training and manpower development department Mr. Wole Olujobi, said the role of the middle level officers as the bridge between senior management and frontline workers cannot be overemphasized, hence the need for them to be proactive.

He added that these sets of officers are strategically positioned to influence productivity, accountability, and service delivery.

Supervisory skills such as clear communication, conflict resolution, time management, and talent development, he said, are essential for improving staff performance and public satisfaction.

The chairman explained that the intensive training on account preparation was not accidental but part of a broader effort to improve financial management, foster discipline, enhance teamwork, and boost overall performance in local governments.

Mr Abejide expressed the hope that Training and retraining of staff, especially middle-level officers, would bridge skill gaps and prepare them for a new era of effective governance at the grassroots.

The objectives of the workshop, he said, include equipping participants with performance management strategies, instilling principles of ethics and equity, identifying challenges affecting service delivery, promoting teamwork, and encouraging continuous learning and adoption of modern supervision techniques.

He also acknowledged the support of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, and praised his recent approval for the sponsorship of officers to pursue Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, and Master’s degree programmes at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, describing it as a laudable initiative aimed at strengthening local government service for higher productivity.

The HLA of General administration department, Mr. Famisa Adedayo who represented the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Titilayo Toba-ojo called on the trainees to consider the program a serious one.

She emphasized that the local government required staff who are well-prepared to implement the policies and programs of the governor.

The PS stressed that the seminar was not a jamboree, but an opportunity to acquire practical knowledge that will benefit both the trainees and the government.

She encouraged participants to remain attentive throughout the lectures.
