… Victim Survives with Gunshot Injuries, Vehicle Riddled with Bullets

In a harrowing attack that has sent shockwaves through Osun State’s security circles, the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt late Monday night after being ambushed by heavily armed unknown gunmen.

The violent ambush occurred at approximately 10:05 PM on Monday, shortly after Omoyele closed from duty at the Amotekun Corps Headquarters in Osogbo. According to his firsthand account from his hospital bed, the attack took place along Ikirun Road, near Kobo, beside Charity Hotel, as he was driving home alone in his private vehicle.

“I had left the office driving home with my two-door vehicle ,” Omoyele recounted. “When I got to Kobo, some armed men suddenly in a moving vehicle double side by side with my car and started firing. Their faces were covered, and before I could react, they opened fire on my vehicle. Bullets riddled the car. I didn’t stop. I kept driving through the hail of gunfire. I was hit, but I managed to escape.”

Medical sources confirm that the Commander sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility. His condition is said to be stable, and he is under protective watch.

In a disturbing development following the assassination attempt, 15 unidentified armed men, also masked, reportedly stormed Omoyele’s private residence later that night. Witnesses claimed the attackers arrived in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, suggesting a well-coordinated and premeditated operation.

The case has been officially reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and investigations are currently underway. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motive remains unclear.

The brazen attack on a top-ranking security official raises serious questions about rising insecurity, even for those tasked with protecting the people of Osun State.

“It is deeply troubling that a high-level commander of a state security outfit could be targeted in such a coordinated and vicious manner,” said a senior security analyst.“This is not just an attack on one man — it is an attack on the symbol of localized security structures.”

Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to local security agencies. Civil society groups and community leaders have called for a swift and thorough investigation into the attempted assassination and the home invasion that followed.
