The chairman, Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission Mr. Samuel Abejide says effective performance is essential to overcoming long-standing challenges in Public Service Delivery.

Mr Abejide made the statement when he declared open a two-day capacity-building workshop organised for middle level officers in the local government system in Ado Ekiti.

The chairman represented by the commissioner in charge of training and Manpower development, Mr Wole Olujobi said the workshop was aimed at enhancing staff performance, behavioural change, and service delivery.

Mr. Abejide emphasized the critical role of middle-level officers as a bridge between senior management and frontline workers.

He stressed that improving staff performance involves not only managing tasks but inspiring discipline, teamwork, and creating an enabling environment for productivity.

“Your supervisory skills must include clear communication, conflict resolution, time management, and the ability to assess and develop the talents of your co-workers,” he said.

Highlighting the workshop’s objectives, the Chairman said participants would be equipped with performance management strategies, ethics and etiquette in public service, and practical solutions to enhance service delivery.

Mr. Abejide also acknowledged the pivotal support of the state governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, for his commitment to strengthening the local government service.

He noted the Governor’s recent approval of sponsorships for officers pursuing Diploma, PGD, and Master’s programs at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, describing it as a laudable effort to boost productivity and good governance at the grassroots.

The commission’s boss encouraged participants to embrace continuous learning and modern supervisory techniques to ensure the local government service meets the aspirations of the people and sustains growth across Ekiti State.

The Head of Local Government Administration (Appointment and Posting), Mr Familoye who spoke on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Titilayo Toba-Ojo, charged participants to regard the programme as a vital investment in their personal and professional growth.

She emphasized that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji prioritizes a bottom-up approach to governance, with local government officers playing a central role in driving the state’s shared prosperity agenda.

“The government is aware that a knowledge gap exists between past administrative practices and the current operational demands. This workshop is one of the ways we are bridging that gap,”she stated.

The workshop gathered local government officers across the 16 local governments and the Local Council development area reflecting the Commission’s ongoing commitment to capacity building and improving public service delivery throughout the state.
