The Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Samuel Alaba Abejide, has warned legal, legislative and marriage officers in the state’s local government system against errors in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
Abejide gave the warning on Wednesday at the opening of a two-day capacity-building workshop for Legal Officers, Legislative Officers and Marriage Officers drawn from the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
The workshop, with the theme, “Improving Administrative Efficiency Through Effective Legal Advisory Services, Marriage Conduct and Legislative Procedures,” was held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The chairman, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr Gabriel Akomoede, said the three categories of officers perform sensitive statutory functions, noting that errors in legal advice, marriage documentation or legislative procedures could have serious consequences for government and the public.
“Your duties require confidentiality, professionalism and strict adherence to the law. Diligence and strict compliance with established procedures must never be compromised,” he told the participants.
While reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to continuous staff development, Abejide commended Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his investment in human capital development within the local government service.
He also congratulated the governor on the successful completion of his first term and his forthcoming inauguration for a second term, scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026.
Abejide charged the participants to translate the knowledge acquired at the workshop into measurable improvements in their respective duty posts, with a view to building a local government system that is legally compliant, administratively efficient and responsive to the needs of the people of Ekiti State.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Bunmi Daramola expressed appreciation to the Commission and the state government for organising the training.
He described the workshop as an opportunity to acquire additional knowledge and improve professional competence.
“We are very happy to be here today as beneficiaries of this training. On behalf of all the participants, we appreciate this effort by the Local Government Service Commission.
“We learn every day, and we are here to learn because the more knowledge we acquire, the more we progress.
“We thank the Local Government Service Commission for recognising us. We also appreciate His Excellency, the governor, who graciously approved this seminar.
“We pray that more programmes like this will be organised, and we look forward to participating in future training opportunities,” he said.
