The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Local Government Service Commission Ado-Ekiti Branch, has celebrated its retired officers and former chairmen for their years of dedication and contributions to the commission and the union.
The recognition was part of a send-off ceremony held on September 30, 2026, to celebrate officers who had completed their years of active service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the NULGE Chairman, Ado Branch, Comrade Falade Olarewaju, said the event was to appreciate the retirees for their leadership and contributions to the union.
Olarewaju congratulated the retirees, commending them for what he described as their meritorious service and valuable contributions to the Local Government Service.
He said they would be greatly missed by the commission, while praying that God would grant them sound health, long life, peace and prosperity in retirement.
The NULGE chairman also paid tribute to the former chairmen who received the Meritorious Service Award, describing the former union leaders as those who laid solid foundation for the present administration.
He said the award, alongside the display of the former chairmen’s photograph at the union’s temporary secretariat, was a token of appreciation for their contributions and leadership.
Olarewaju called on serving staff to remain dedicated, punctual, honest and committed to their duties.
He also appealed to the management of the Local Government Service Commission to continue supporting staff welfare initiatives, including training and retraining, promotion, healthcare and other measures aimed at improving staff well-being.
He expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Samuel Abejide, the management, members of the union’s executive and staff for their support and participation in the programme.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Rotimi Akomolede, commended the organisers for celebrating the retirees.
Akomolede noted that retirement was an inevitable stage of every worker’s career, and that the occasion served as a reminder to serving officers that, regardless of their positions or years of service, they would eventually leave active service.
The Permanent Secretary congratulated the retirees on successful completion of their years of service and thanked God for preserving their lives and health.
He attributed longevity and the ability to remain healthy after years of service partly to the grace of God and responsible personal habits.
According to him, people must pay attention to what they eat, how they live and their level of physical activity, stressing that prayer and personal responsibility should work together.
Akomolede also acknowledged the contributions of officers who had worked diligently and made meaningful contributions to the development of the commission.
He urged serving staff to approach their duties with diligence, passion and commitment, stressing that every individual has a role to play in the progress of the service.
The PS cautioned workers against neglecting their responsibilities, saying that poor performance does not amount to cheating the government alone but could ultimately have consequences for the individual.
The ceremony brought together members of the commission, union executives, serving staff and retirees in recognition of years of service and contribution to the Local Government Service.
