The Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has commenced an internal recruitment and conversion exercise to fill vacancies in its newly created Legislative Department.
The exercise follows the amendment of the Local Government Administration Law, which was assented to by the Governor of Ekiti State and signed into law on June 4. The amendment provides for the creation of a new department known as the Legislative Department.
Speaking during the interview exercise, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr Rotimi Akomolede, said the exercise became necessary following the completion of the administrative processes required after the Governor’s assent to the amended law.
He said, “What necessitates the interview today is the recently passed law by Mr Governor. The amendment of the Local Government Administration Law has created a new department called the Legislative Department. That has been assented to by Mr Governor. So, we have been handling the administrative paperwork, and today, we are conducting an internal recruitment exercise to fill the existing vacancies in the Legislative Department.”
Mr Akomolede clarified that the recruitment was not open to external applicants but was strictly an internal exercise targeting serving officers whose experience and qualifications were relevant to legislative duties.
He advised participants seeking conversion from the Executive Department to the Legislative Department to maintain a high level of professionalism, dress appropriately and ensure that all relevant credentials and supporting documents were properly arranged and readily available for verification before the interview.
According to him, the exercise was designed to as
sess the suitability of the participants for conversion and ensure compliance with the required professional standards and administrative procedures.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the newly created Legislative Department, Mr Bunmi Daramola, expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ekiti State and the management of the Local Government Service Commission for approving the creation of the department.
He explained that the establishment of the department followed a request submitted through the Ekiti State House of Assembly, which received the approval of the Governor.
Mr Daramola described the development as a significant milestone in the growth of the Local Government Service Commission in Ekiti State.
He disclosed that the department would cover all 16 local government areas in the state, excluding the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), to ensure that its operations extended across the state.
He encouraged junior staff members interested in advancing their careers to consider transferring to the new department, noting that it offered opportunities to develop professional skills, gain relevant experience and progress to the highest levels of their chosen careers.
The Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Commission, thanked the Governor for introducing innovations aimed at developing the local government service. He noted that the service was expanding daily and that staff members remained supportive of the administration.
He added, “We are thanking the Governor for bringing a lot of new innovations and developmental initiatives to the local government service. The local government service is expanding every day, and the staff are happy about it.”
